Dry Needling

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used by healthcare professionals, typically physical therapists, to treat muscular pain and dysfunction. It involves the insertion of thin, solid needles into specific trigger points or tight bands of muscles, aiming to stimulate the release of tension and promote healing. Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine and focuses on balancing energy flow, dry needling is based on Western anatomical and neurophysiological principles. The needles used in dry needling are typically inserted directly into myofascial trigger points, aiming to induce a local twitch response and alleviate pain and muscle tightness. The procedure is called "dry" needling because no medication or injection is administered through the needles.
